Palo Alto, Calif., March 1, 2010 – The Silicon Valley Prayer Breakfast (SVPB) today announced that its 2010 speaker event will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2010. The breakfast provides a comfortable opportunity for people of all levels of faith to hear successful leaders give testimony to the power of faith and prayer as vital elements of a meaningful and vibrant life. Organized by volunteers, the breakfast event is in its sixteenth year. Attendees come primarily from the business, medical and educational communities of Silicon Valley, and are anticipated to total nearly 350 people.

This year’s keynote speakers will be Joe Ehrmann, former Colts football player and presently coach and community leader, and Tim Borland, president of Race for Good. Both will speak on “Finding Meaning and Purpose in Life” drawing from their personal experiences and commitment to making a difference to enrich the lives of others. In addition, several other well known Silicon Valley government and business leaders will be participating. The event takes place on Wednesday, March 31 from 7:00 to 8:30 AM at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Palo Alto, 4290 El Camino Real.

SVPB steering committee chair Skip Vaccarello noted, “We are delighted to have such inspiring speakers at this year’s event to learn about how they are using their talents and abilities to influence their communities and advocate for those in need. This event promises to be one of the best ever and offers encouragement, inspiration and opportunities to network for those who attend.”

Joe Ehrmann, Former Professional Football Player, Coach and Community Leader

Joe Ehrmann played professional football for the Colts for thirteen years and was named Colts’ Man of the Year. Parade Magazine named Joe the “Most Important Coach in America” due to his tireless efforts to change the culture of sports. Joe was named one of the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America by the Institute for International Sports; he is also the subject of the New York Times bestseller Season of Life by Jeffrey Marx. In addition to several other awards recognizing Joe’s commitment to the community, he was the recipient of the National Fatherhood Initiative’s Man of the Year Award to honor his work to improve the wellbeing of children by helping fathers become more responsible to their families.

Joe and his wife Paula, a psychotherapist, co-founded Building Men and Women for Others to help every man, woman and child reach his or her potential. The Ehrmanns also co-founded The Door, an inner-city, community-based ministry that addresses issues of poverty, systemic racism and social justice. Joe and Paula have been married for over 30 years, have four children and live in Baltimore, Maryland.

Tim Borland, President, Race for Good

With a vision to change the world for disenfranchised children, Tim leads Race for Good in their mission to mobilize people and transform lives by connecting individuals to causes through a network of fitness-driven programs and events. His life mission is to advocate for children in need by using his gift in endurance running. Tim began this adventure in the fall of 2007, when he ran 63 marathons (26.2 miles) in 63 consecutive days in 63 different communities to aid the work of the A-T Children’s Project in their fight for a cure to a fatal children’s disease called Ataxia Telangiectasia. Ataxia Telangiectasia is a childhood neurological disorder that causes degeneration in the part of the brain that controls motor movements and speech. Tim and his wife, Michelle, have three children and live in the Bay Area.
