Silicon Valley Prayer Breakfast Announces its 15th Annual
Speaker Event
This
Year’s Prayer Breakfast Set for
March 12, 2009 at the Marriott, Santa Clara;
Record
Attendance Anticipated due to Economic Downturn
Santa
Clara, Calif., Feb. 17, 2009 –
The
Silicon Valley Prayer Breakfast
(SVPB)
today announced that its 2009 speaker event will be held Thursday
March 12, 2009. The breakfast provides a comfortable
opportunity for people of all levels of faith to hear successful
leaders give testimony to the power of faith and prayer in their
lives. Organized by volunteers, the breakfast is in its
fifteenth year. Attendees who come primarily from the business,
medical and educational communities of Silicon Valley are anticipated
to total nearly 400 people. This year’s keynote speakers
will be Col. Rex J. Walheim, NASA Astronaut, and Cheryl Ho, MD,
Medical Director, Valley Homeless Healthcare Program. Both will
speak on “The
Joy of Serving”. In
addition, several other well known Silicon Valley government and
business leaders will be participating. The event takes place
on Thursday, March 12 from 7:00 to 8:30 AM at the Marriott Hotel in
Santa Clara, 2700 Mission College Boulevard.

steering committee chair Skip Vaccarello noted, “In light of
the recent economic downturn, people are searching for hope and
inspiration. Based on the caliber of speakers and the
opportunity for networking, we expect that the event will
sell out this year, and that those in attendance will be inspired by
stories of personal fulfillment that comes from service to others.”
Col.
Rex J Walheim, NASA Astronaut
Col.
Walheim has completed two space flights with his most recent in
February 2008. On that mission, Rex and the crew visited the
International Space Station, traveled over 5 million miles in 203
orbits, and took three space walks. His previous mission in
2002 marked the first time the station’s robotic arm was used
to maneuver spacewalkers around the station. Rex is a Bay Area
native, calling San Carlos his
hometown. He graduated from San Carlos High School and received
a BS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of
California, Berkeley. He was commissioned in the Air Force and
earned an MS degree in industrial engineering from the University of
Houston. Rex is married and has two children. In his
talk, Rex intends to discuss the unique path that led him from the
Bay Area all the way to outer space.
Cheryl
Ho, MD, Medical Director, Valley Homeless Healthcare Program
The
Valley Homeless Healthcare Program is a nationally recognized program
that provides both medical and psychiatric care to the homeless of
Santa Clara County. As director of the program, Cheryl
considers it a privilege and honor to serve the most vulnerable
members of the Silicon Valley every day. Cheryl and her team
care for the chronically homeless, individuals with drug and alcohol
addiction, the mentally ill, runaway youth, and migrant farm
workers. She is also the co-founder and president of the
Silicon Valley Christian Health Alliance, a faith-based non-profit
organization that provides medical and dental care to the homeless
and those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction at CityTeam
Ministries in San Jose. Cheryl is also a clinical instructor at
the Stanford School of Medicine. She is married, received her
undergraduate degree from Stanford and her M.D. from UC San Diego.

The Silicon Valley Prayer Breakfast
The
Silicon Valley Prayer Breakfast is
in its fifteenth year. It is an event organized by volunteers
to feature speakers with inspiring Christian testimonies. It is
neither a fund raiser nor associated with any particular church or
denomination. The event is designed to introduce faith and
prayer as vital elements of a meaningful and vibrant life.
The
cost of the event is $35 per person or $350 for a table of 10.
